THE EAGLES' preseason schedule came out Monday, a week or so before the expected announcement of the regular-season schedule, the one fans really care about.

The Birds will open their preseason at Green Bay sometime between Aug. 10 and Aug. 14. It will be the second preseason trip to Wisconsin in three years. The first home exhibition, Aug. 17-21 against Buffalo, will feature LeSean McCoy and former Eagles defensive coordinator Sean McDermott, now the Bills' head coach.

Week 3, between Aug. 24-27, brings a visit from the Miami Dolphins, during which fans undoubtedly will want to warmly embrace ex-Eagles Kiko Alonso and Byron Maxwell.

As always, the Eagles conclude their warmup work with the Jets, at East Rutherford, N.J., on Aug. 31.

That's the sort of game reserved in the past for deep backups. Along those lines, the Eagles announced Monday that they have signed former Penn State quarterback Matt McGloin to a one-year deal. McGloin presumably will back up Carson Wentz and Nick Foles.

McGloin, 27, wasn't drafted but spent four years with the Raiders, starting six games in 2013 and one last season, in which he suffered a shoulder injury. On Nov. 3, 2013, McGloin made his NFL debut in relief of Terrelle Pryor, then a QB, now a wide receiver, after Pryor suffered a knee injury in the 49-20 Eagles victory at Oakland in which Foles threw seven touchdown passes. So they'll have that to talk about in the QB room.

McGloin was the first walk-on QB to start at Penn State since scholarships became a permanent thing in 1949.

Monday also was the day the Eagles announced the hiring of their new director of player engagement, Paul Lancaster, who spent the previous 16 seasons with the Bills. The team says that role includes being "a mentor and a resource for all Eagles players off the field." Former Eagles safety Quintin Mikell left the post in February.
