HP puts out another pesky battery recall

Uh oh, more consumer tech devices are heating up and catching on fire, from irritable lithium ion batteries.  Or could.

Wednesday, with goading from the Consumer Product Safety Commission, HP recalled about 101,000 lithium ion batteries deployed in its notebook computers. The move comes just seven months after HP put out a "return quick" hit on 41,000 laptops, likewise because the batteries (made by Panasonic) posed "fire and burn hazards."

This time around, CPSC's bulletin notes that there's been just "one additional report of the battery overheating, melting and charring and causing about $1,000 in property damage." But better safe than sorry.

Affected notebook models include the HP ProBook, HP ENVY, Compaq Presario and HP Pavilion, sold between March 2013 and October 2016 at Best Buy, Walmart, Costco, Sam's Club, www.hp.com and other authorized dealers.
