BE IT Rhythm Nation or rhythm method, it worked.

E! News followed up a report by Entertainment Tonight that Janet Jackson is pregnant with her and husband Wissam Al Mana's first child.

It was only last month that Janet stopped her "Unbreakable" tour because she and Wissam were "planning our family" and her doctor ordered her to "rest."

Good planning.

A source told E! News on Wednesday that Janet, who's 49, is in her second trimester and that she and Wissam, a 41-year-old Qatari billionaire (so don't worry about gifts) had been working with a fertility specialist.

Hmm . . . a new Jackson 5?

Penn, Daniels still pals

Sean Penn's defamation suit against filmmaking Philly native

Lee Daniels

(

) is over.

All it took was some love.

"I am so sorry that I have hurt you, Sean, and I apologize and retract my reckless statements about you. How thoughtless of me. You are someone I consider a friend, a brilliant actor and true Hollywood legend and humanitarian," Daniels wrote in a joint statement with Penn obtained by People magazine.

The problem arose when Daniels inartfully complained about the unfair treatment Empire's Terrence Howard got after admitting he hit his first wife.

"That poor boy," Daniels told the Hollywood Reporter. "[Terrence] ain't done nothing different than Marlon Brando or Sean Penn, and all of a sudden he's some f------ demon. That's a sign of the time, of race, of where we are right now in America."

Or it's a sign that we don't excuse wife-beating as easily as we once did.

Or both.

Long live rock!

At Coachella in April, the most popular drug is Molly.

At Coachella in October, it might be Maalox.

Goldenvoice Entertainment has announced the Desert Trip, bringing Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones, The Who, Paul McCartney, Neil Young and Pink Floyd's Roger Waters to Coachella's Empire Polo Club stage during the weekend of Oct. 7-9.

Each act will perform full, separate sets with the shows beginning at sunset.

It should be noted that the average age of the four core members of the Rolling Stones is 72. Dylan will be 75 by show time. McCartney is 73, and Waters 72. The event's youngest headliner (Young) is 70.

One-day passes are $199, with three-day passes costing $399. Sales begin Monday.

For those who want to camp, there are tents.

And don't expect only old-timers.

"People in their early 20s, they find it a really amazing experience," said Chris Sampson, who teaches popular music at USC. Some, he said, react the same way they do when they first hear Mozart.

While others say, "Which one is Mozart?"
