Prince writing memoir, wants people to read books like it's 1999

Also in Tattle: David Morse, Amy Schumer, Katie Holmes and Suri Cruise

PRINCE TOLD a New York audience Friday night that he was working on his memoir. The working title is The Beautiful Ones and it will be released in the fall of 2017 by publishing house Spiegel & Grau (an imprint of Penguin/Random House).

Prince said Spiegel & Grau made him "an offer I can't refuse."

"This is my first [book]. My brother Dan is helping me with it. He's a good critic and that's what I need. He's not a 'yes' man at all and he's really helping me get through this," Prince told the audience.

"We're starting from the beginning from my first memory, and hopefully we can go all the way up to the Super Bowl," he said.

At one point Prince asked the crowd: "You all still read books right?"

The audience roared loudly.

He did not add, "You all still read newspapers, right?"

According to a press release about the memoir, "Prince will take readers on an unconventional and poetic journey through his life and creative work." The book will include stories about Prince's music and "the family that shaped him and the people, places, and ideas that fired his creative imagination."

Box office stays a 'Zoo'

Zootopia continued to run wild over its rivals in its third weekend in theaters, stomping all over the launch of Allegiant, the third film in the "Divergent" series.

The animated Disney film earned $38 million this weekend to take first place once again, according to comScore estimates Sunday. It's now earned $201.8 million domestically.

It stole the thunder from The Divergent Series: Allegiant, which opened in second place with an estimated $29.1 million from 3,740 locations.

It's a new low for the YA series based on Veronica Roth's novels.

The latest entry in the faith-based market, Miracles From Heaven, took third place this weekend with an impressive $15 million and cost only $13 million to produce.

Rounding out the top five were holdovers 10 Cloverfield Lane and Deadpool with $12.5 million and $8 million, respectively.

TATTBITS

* Versatile film, theater and television actor David Morse, who lives locally, will be interviewed tonight at 7 by Howard Sherman at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre (480 S. Broad St.).

The event is part of the Philadelphia Theatre Company's "Theatre Masters" series. Tickets are $25, $5 for students.

Amy Schumer, her boyfriend and some friends were lucky enough to get tickets to Hamilton on Broadway Saturday night-she must know someone-and afterward went out for drinks.

The group spent $77, which in Manhattan on a Saturday night could be one drink, and according to a recipt photo on Instagram, Amy left a $1,000 tip.

Katie Holmes and daughter Suri had really good seats for the exciting Stephen F. Austin-Notre Dame game at the Barclay's Center in Brooklyn. They also watched the less exciting Villanova-Iowa game, but not as intently.

They were rooting for Notre Dame, which won in the final seconds. And kudos to them for being real fans who watched the game instead of mugged for the cameras.

Katie's a Columbia alum but she did go to the all-girls Notre Dame Academy in Ohio. Columbia, by the way, is playing in the CIT Tournament and had a first round win over Norfolk St. They'll next play in the quarterfinals Wednesday night, so maybe Katie and Suri will show up at Levien Gym at 120th Street and Broadway in Manhattan.
