Globes weren't golden for everyone

FOR THE lucky few, the next few months are known as awards season.

For the unlucky many, it's snub season.

With the Golden Globe nominations announced yesterday (see Page 34), the Washington Post was quick to weigh in on those who were unfairly (or fairly) dissed.

The Post cited broadcast TV as a major loser this year, with almost all the nods going to pay-cable and streaming services and individually called out "The Americans," "Black-ish," "Fresh Off the Boat," "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" and "Inside Amy Schumer" as shows that were underappreciated.

On the movie side, Johnny Depp was "Black Mass-ively" snubbed, "Straight Outta Compton" didn't get NWAnything, the individual actors of "Spotlight" saw little shining and Steven Spielberg's "Bridge of Spies" was a bridge to nowhere.

, the former director of a foundation started by ex-Subway pitchman

was sentenced to 27 years in prison yesterday for producing child pornography that played a role in Fogle's criminal case.

A federal judge sentenced Taylor, who agreed in September to plead guilty to child exploitation and child porn charges and admitted using hidden cameras to produce pornography of 12 children. Taylor also will have lifetime supervision after he serves his sentence.

Taylor was executive director of the Jared Foundation, a nonprofit that Fogle started to raise awareness and money to fight childhood obesity, from 2009 until May, when prosecutors filed child porn charges against him.

* Celebrity chef Michael Symon, co-host of ABC's "The Chew," will open an Italian restaurant at Atlantic City's Borgata casino next fall.

Symon joins fellow Iron Chefs Bobby Flay and Geoffrey Zakarian and legendary chef Wolfgang Puck among the celebrity chefs with eateries at the casino.

"We're excited to bring our Italian cooking to Atlantic City," said Symon, who has award-winning restaurants in Cleveland, Detroit (where Tattle once had a delicious meal) and elsewhere. "This is the food I grew up eating; my Sicilian grandmother would be proud! Authentic Italian is very simple. It's all about great ingredients. It's what I cooked in my early career, and still what I like to make at home."

In our brave new world of 24/7 news cycles and interactive social media, today's news reporter/personality is supposed to converse with readers/viewers and make everyone part of the community.

There are reasons to do this - job preservation, for instance. There are also drawbacks:

One is that it takes time that could be spent covering stories and uncovering corruption (or what's up with the Kardashian du jour) and a second is that it opens up your Facebook page and Twitter feeds to trolls.

Fox 29's "Good Day Philadelphia" reporter Jennaphr Frederick got a post on her Fox Facebook page which read, "Who's been messing with Jen's face? She looks HIDEOUS!!"

Nice, right?

Jennaphr, however, took the high road as opposed to her critic, who lives by a low road under a bridge, and while redacting the "fan's" name, responded:

"Ok I'm hideous. I'm not exactly tall. I'm not 25 anymore, and today I was delivered a version of the comment below from more than one person on FACEBOOK. So it MUST BE TRUE . . . Right? FACEBOOK DOES NOT LIE.

I'll admit I have good makeup days and bad. But, to call me HIDEOUS that really gets to a person. Hideous - like a witch - like an evil warlock - HIDEOUS is a one-word punch in the gut. (oh, I have a gut too) I guess the other reason why it hurts is that I thought I looked OK today. Hey - did you see what I did there? I admitted that it hurts my feelings to be called ugly & hideous.

I don't care if you are 12 or 87 . . . Does not matter if you're a mailman or a TV person . . . It hurts to be called names. Please remember that the next time you want to post something awful like this on FACEBOOK. Especially, on the page operated by the company that pays my family's mortgage and other bills. It could be your daughter or sister , your favorite co-worker who is forced to look at a comment like that at work. (I'm assuming you would never write something this awful about a man)

I know you deserve to be heard . . . I just don't think I need to hear you call me hideous anymore."

Since Tattle admittedly has a face perfect for a grainy, B&W postage-stamp-sized newspaper photo, and because we're a man, we're usually not criticized for our looks. Our messages are more like this recent gem: "You're just another talentless hack towing the line for the liberal media giants. You suck."

Don't you just love the holiday spirit?
