Why did TomKat break up?

THERE ARE A LOT of questions being asked about the Katie Holmes-Tom Cruise split (the most obvious of which is: Why did it take so long?) but Tattle's question is: Will this give Kelly Preston the kick in the pants she needs? Some of the other questions making the rounds:

THERE ARE A LOT of questions being asked about the Katie Holmes-Tom Cruise split (the most obvious of which is: Why did it take so long?) but Tattle's question is: Will this give Kelly Preston the kick in the pants she needs?

Some of the other questions making the rounds:

Was Scientology the reason for Katie finally calling it quits?

Did she merely finish out the terms of her five-year marriage contract?

Did she wake up and realize, "Wait a second, Mimi Rogers and Nicole Kidman left Tom when they were 33. I'm 33. It's go time."

The serious question being asked is: Does Katie's decision to file for divorce in New York mean she's seeking sole custody of the couple's fashionista daughter, 6-year-old Suri.

Hollywood pundits spent the weekend speculating on whose brand the divorce will affect more, but Tattle doesn't care for such handicapping. Cruise remains a megastar ("Rock of Ages" aside) and Holmes remains a very rich, very attractive, B-list actress (you will not be seeing her on "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills") who must be a hoot at cocktail parties if you get her talking about her marriage.

They're both going to be fine.

In other TomKat news, Us Weekly reported that Katie had moved into her own New York apartment recently in preparation for her divorce filing, while Tom was in Iceland filming "Oblivion." TMZ.com followed up that story with one claiming Katie is concerned that Scientology now views her as a threat to the church and has stationed operatives outside her new apartment to keep tabs on her.

Concerned about Tom's love life (although more concerned with free publicity), Brandon Wade, founder of the Sugar Daddy website seekingarrangement.com, has offered Tom a lifetime membership and notes that as this is Tom's third failed marriage, he may be more suited to be a Sugar Daddy than a husband.

Tattle music report

An Irish jury unanimously found Carol Hawkins, a former aide to U2 bassist Adam Clayton, guilty of embezzlement Friday after she spent more than $3.6 million of the musician's savings on 22 thoroughbred horses, pricey plane tickets and other indulgences for herself and her family.

Hawkins sat impassively as each of the 181 guilty verdicts was read out in Dublin Criminal Court. She made no comment. Her lawyers, who called no witnesses during the three-week trial, said she was still proclaiming her innocence.

Hawkins worked for Clayton for nearly 17 years, initially as a maid and cook, until he discovered her spending spree in 2008.

Turns out all she cooked were the books.

Eight-time Grammy-winning singer Lauryn Hill has pleaded guilty in New Jersey to not paying her taxes.

Hill was charged last month with three counts of failing to file tax returns on more than $1.5 million earned from 2005 to 2007.

She appeared in U.S. District Court in Newark on Friday and admitted it. She faces a maximum one-year sentence on each count.

Police in Prague say Randy Blythe, the frontman of U.S. death metal band Lamb of God, has been arrested in the Czech capital in connection with the death of a fan in 2010.

Police spokeswoman Jana Rosslerova said Friday police believed Blythe "injured a person who consequently died" in 2010. She didn't give details. Local media say the incident took place during the band's first gig in Prague when a 19-year-old fan tried to climb onstage and was pushed off by Blythe. He allegedly hit his head in the concrete below and died 14 days later.

The band's Thursday night concert in Prague was canceled and they returned home to the U.S. without their lead singer.

TATTBITS

Adele confirmed Friday that she is expecting a child with boyfriend Simon Konecki.

The message was posted on her official website, which crashed due to a large amount of traffic.

"I'm delighted to announce that Simon and I are expecting our first child together.

"I wanted you to hear the news direct from me, obviously we're over the moon and very excited but please respect our privacy at this precious time," she said on the website.

Joan Rivers may have to stop with the "fat" jokes.

Alec Baldwin and his yoga instructor fiancée tied the knot Saturday in a Catholic ceremony at St. Patrick's Old Cathedral in New York City.

Baldwin, 54, and Hilaria Thomas, 28, wed in front of his "30 Rock" co-star Tina Fey, Mariska Hargitay, Woody Allen and environmental lawyer Robert F. Kennedy Jr. We're sure Hilaria also had some friends in attendance.

She wore a silk magnolia Amsale gown with cap sleeves and a keyhole back neckline accented with crystal buttons. He wore Tom Ford.

Ireland, Baldwin's daughter with former wife Kim Basinger, attended the wedding and also wore Amsale.

NBC named Savannah Guthrie on Friday as Matt Lauer's co-host for the "Today" show. Ann Curry's spot on the couch was still warm.

In a related insult, Steve Capus, the president of NBC News, took the low road."We gave her a year to prove herself, and ultimately we came to the conclusion that she had played at the highest level she could," he told the Hollywood Reporter.

"When you're in the major leagues of our profession, you've got to continue to be at peak performance in order to stay there."

Capus said that Curry's real weaknesses were on "Today's" lighter segments, especially those dealing with celebrities and cooking.

You know, as preachy as Aaron Sorkin's "The Newsroom" can be, at least the head of his fictional network's news division isn't concerned about cooking segments.
