La Colombe buys Michigan dairy plant

La Colombe Torrefaction, a Philadelphia coffee roaster and cafe operator, has purchased a dairy plant in Michigan to produce draft latte, which was first sold online in March and sold more than 10,000 cans in the first hour, the company said Wednesday.

The price for the 55,000-square-foot facility in western Michigan, near Muskegon, was not disclosed.

The company said it would work with a local dairy association in Michigan to tap fresh local milk for its draft latte. Most recently the plant was used to make yogurt.

La Colombe's home state of Pennsylvania is also a major dairy state, as is New York, which is home to  Chobani Greek-style yogurt, whose owner invested in La Colombe last year.
