Drexel names Crozer new regional medical campus

The Drexel University College of Medicine named Crozer-Chester Medical Center a regional medical campus, where up to 24 students per medical class will complete all of their clinical rotations during their third year, Drexel said Monday.

The change is scheduled to take effect next July. For more than 30 years, Crozer, in Upland, Delaware County, has had the lesser designation of clinical campus for Drexel's medical school.

The addition of Crozer will give Drexel six regional medical campuses. The others are Abington Memorial, in Abington; Allegheny General, in Pittsburgh; Kaiser Permanente Sacramento, in California; Monmouth Medical Center, in Long Branch, N.J.; and Wellspan York Hospital, in York, Pa.

Drexel medicine's academic affiliate is Tenet HealthSystem Philadelphia Inc., which owns Hahnemann University Hospital and St. Christopher's Hospital for Children. That agreement runs through June 2022. Local Tenet executives in February told staff at the two hospital that Tenet offers "opportunities for alignment with other providers."
