"POP AYE": A successful Bangkok architect (Thaneth Warakulnukroh as Thana) has has a midlife crisis that leads him to an encounter with the elephant (Bong as Popeye) with whom he spent an idyllic childhood in the Thai countryside. Together they embark on a road trip to deliver both man and beast to their origins.

Misfortune. An ex-con (Kevin Gage) hunts down his ex-partner’s son (Desmond Devenish), who could be the key to a cache of stolen diamonds, leading to a desert search for the missing loot. With Jenna Kanell. (R) AMC Voorhees 16.

Maurice. A 30th-anniversary restoration of the Merchant-Ivory film about the the forbidden love between two men (James Wilby, Hugh Grant) amid the stifling conformity of Edwardian England, adapted from the landmark E.M. Forster novel. (R) Ritz at the Bourse.

13 Minutes. In November 1939, an attempt by Georg Elser (Christian Friedel) to assassinate Adolf Hitler fails, and he is arrested. During his confinement, he recalls the events leading up to his plot and his reasons for deciding to take such drastic action. Not rated. Ritz Five.

Lost in Paris.  Fiona Gordon stars as a Canadian who heads to Paris to find her missing aunt (Emmanuelle Riva), and searches for her with the help of a vagabond (Dominique Abel). Filmed with the intricately choreographed slapstick that’s come to define Abel’s and Gordon’s work. Not rated. Ritz Five.
