IRS extends taxpayer call hours for President's Day

To help meet high demand, the Internal Revenue Service is extending customer service hours to its toll-free call center on Presidents Day and Tuesday.

IRS toll-free telephone lines will be available Monday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. (callers’ local time). Tuesday is typically the busiest day of the year for IRS telephone assistors as they field thousands of calls per hour.

Taxpayers calling about account issues should be prepared to validate their identities by having prior-year and most-recently filed tax returns available.

Customer service representatives are available Monday through Friday, 7 a.m.- 7 p.m. local time. The following are IRS numbers for:

Individuals:
800-829-1040

Businesses:
800-829-4933

People with hearing impairment:
800-829-4059 (TDD)

Exempt organizations, retirement plan administrators, and government:
877-829-5500 (Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. local time)
