ABC has big news for 'Goldbergs'

Jenkintown-centric sitcom gets two-season renewal.

The Goldbergs — the ABC comedy based on creator Adam F. Goldberg's 1980s boyhood in Jenkintown — got a huge vote of confidence Thursday, as the network renewed it for Seasons 5 and 6 in advance of next week's 2017-18 schedule announcements.

That two-season renewal is the same deal the network had announced earlier for its Wednesday night powerhouse Modern Family.

Goldberg, who's mined his friends and family so thoroughly that most of his characters bear the names of real people reacted, typically, on Twitter.

Not long after, Goldberg's mother — the original Beverly Goldberg, who inspired Wendi McClendon-Covey's character — weighed in (although she got the numbers wrong, since the show's just finishing its fourth season next week).
