Prince gets his own shade of Pantone purple

We all know that purple was the color of the late musical genius Prince Rogers Nelson.

But on Monday, the Pantone Color Institute made it official.

The NewYork color authority named a particularly eggplanty purple Love Symbol #2, in honor of the gifted musician.

I think I hear doves crying with joy.

Love Symbol #2 was inspired by Prince’s custom-made Yamaha purple piano, originally scheduled to go on tour with him before he died in April 2016.  Love Symbol #2, Pantone says, pays tribute to Prince’s indelible mark on music, art, fashion, and culture.

Choosing the color was a joint project between Prince’s Minneapolis estate and Pantone.

“We are honored to have worked with the development of Love Symbol #2,” said Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Color Institute.  “Love Symbol #2 enables Prince’s unique purple shade to be consistently replicated and maintain the same iconic status as the man himself.”

Sounds like it’s time for me to order a couch in  Love Symbol #2.
