I’ve been over the poor taste slithering from 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. for months now.
But Tuesday’s shenanigans were the last straw.
First lady Melania Trump wore sky-high stilettos as she boarded Marine One on Tuesday morning on her way to to Corpus Christi, Texas, to survey Hurricane Harvey damage. As usual, FLOTUS was runway ready. She sashayed to the aircraft in a fitted army jacket, her eyes obscured by must-have oversize sunglasses.
Devastation? What devastation?
While the Trumps were en route, the photo went viral.
By the time the Trumps arrived in the Lone Star State, FLOTUS had switched up her look, pairing a starched white button-up and flats with her skinny black pants. Still pretty, just less glamorous.
(The FLOTUS trucker hat took the look down more than a notch.)
The damage, however, was done. Melania Trump appeared tone deaf. Like, again!
It’s an undisputed fact that Melania Trump’s wardrobe is amazing. During the last eight months, our first lady has flawlessly wrapped herself in many a to-die-for red Valentino. But just because a piece is beautiful and expensive — like the $51,500 floral Dolce & Gabbana coat she wore in Italy in May — doesn’t mean it’s in good taste. (That one coat was more than many folks’ salary.)
The bottom line is, good taste takes thought. And wearing fancy stilettos on the way to comfort folks who have lost everything is the epitome of bad taste. Those shoes — whether they are $1,000 Jimmy Choos or $25 Payless pumps — telegraph a serious lack of caring.
Maybe she cares deeply. But she doesn’t look like she does.
