Ivanka Trump tops off modest ensemble with a fascinator

Ivanka Trump decided to wait to make her fashion statement during President Trump’s nine-day trip abroad.

And Monday in Israel, what a modest statement it was.

The Trump contingent on Monday visited the Western Wall, one of Judiasm’s holiest sites. Ivanka Trump wore a fashionably demure navy-pleated skirt by Belgium-bred fashion designer Cedric Charlier. (The skirt is $969, the Daily Mail reported.) She paired the skirt with a quilted black top adorned with a navy sash, which provided a chic contrast and pulled the pious look together.

The first daughter topped off her ensemble with a pillbox-style fascinator. Trump’s shoes were from her eponymous clothing line.

Ivanka Trump’s well-thought-out and coordinated look was noticeably different from her trademark body-skimming sheaths in punchy, see-me-now shades. She touched the wall with a somberness I haven’t yet seen from her.  Ivanka Trump converted to Judaism some years ago before marrying Jared Kushner, which likely explains her palatable reverence. With this outfit, we were privy to her deep respect for her religion. That is commendable.

However, I would be remiss if I didn’t note that Ivanka Trump did not display that same respect in Saudi Arabia, where she chose to meet with leaders in what some may call a tight, winter floral dress.  She also chose not to cover her head.

Chastity applies only to your own religion, I guess.

First lady Melania Trump, on the other hand, kept it all the way real. She visited the Western Wall sans head covering in the fitted Michael Kors skirt suit she wore when she deplaned in Tel Aviv earlier that day. She gets points for consistency.

Later Monday, the first lady accompanied President Trump to a wreath-laying ceremony in  Yad Veshem in honor of Holocaust victims. Again, Melania Trump wore white, a color of respect piety and grace. The frock’s stripes were textured and monochromatic. (One of my favorite fashion details.)  Its tea length was perfectly calf-grazing; on her feet were her signature nude stilettos.

Melania Trump was her usual well-dressed self, enveloped in trademark clean lines and a stiff demeanor. She managed not to telegraph an iota of emotion on day that many would say calls for some feeling.
