The first Wednesday of June is here and you are soooo ready for Center City Sips.
But this year, while we indulge in $3 beers, $4 wines, and $5 cocktails at 90 of the city’s hottest bars, select clothing stores and salons hope we’ll be up for a little shopping. (Always!)
As part of the Center City District’s plan to give a supportive push to our struggling retail scene — there is no denying on-line shopping is bad for brick and mortar businesses — the CCD partnered with national and local retailers to offer Center City Sips specific sales. After all if so many people are going to mob the city for drinks and 1/2-price appetizers, they might as try to at least lure some of them in. And frankly, that’s not a bad idea, who doesn’t need a new strapless maxi dress at this time of year?
Every good promotion needs a style ambassador. Center City Sips has three.
They are Vida Fashionista, a Coatesville-bred stylist, blogger, and former Philadelphia 76ers dancer.
These ambassadors will post tips on their Instagram feeds telling locals how to make their cubicle-friendly gear happy-hour hot.
If these ambassadors don’t inspire an upping of fashion ante, Center City Sips will be moving a pop-up photo station through select participating bars this summer. This week’s step and repeat will be at the Dilworth Park Cafe. Next week it will be at Marathon Grill. Check Facebook to keep up with where it will land.
Final #CCDSips tip: Once you’ve got your selfie or red carpet pic, post it on Instagram with the hashtag: #CCDSipsstyle and you’ll be entered in a shopping spree. You have until Aug. 30 to get your sips on.
Center City Sips is in its 12th year and over the years has become one of Philly’s most successful promotions — as in people (including me) leave the office early to secure a spot for their crew at the bar in question.
See you there.
