Picks have Peyton Manning off his game

The Broncos quarterback has six touchdown passes and seven interceptions through five games.

PEYTON MANNING is 5-0 for the seventh time in his career. But for the first time, he's disappointing fantasy fans.

If the opening five weeks of the season are any indication, Father Time and Mother Medical have turned Manning - one of the great fantasy quarterbacks of all time - into Kyle Orton.

Through five games, he has six touchdown passes, seven interceptions and just one 300-yard game. Fifteen other QBs have more touchdown passes, including Derek Carr, Tyrod Taylor and Blake Bortles. The Broncos are moving the ball a bit, but turnovers are killing them.

"Some of the (interceptions) have been poor decisions," Manning told reporters on Wednesday. "A couple of them have just been bad luck. Regardless, I need to eliminate them and it would be great to do that this week."

Dropped passes, injuries, the departure of tight end Julius Thomas and the inconsistency of the running game also have contributed to the offense's slow start. Peyton Manning running the 30th-ranked offense is like Dale Earnhardt Jr. riding a tricycle. Denver is undefeated largely because of its defense and its special teams.

Manning, 39, has had more than 10,000 pass attempts and been sacked 330 times when you count postseason. Obviously, he's been hit countless other times, had knee surgery in 2008 and a pair of neck surgeries in 2011 that saved his career.

Two years ago, Manning set a league, single-season record with 55 touchdown passes. Last year, he had another terrific season with 39 TD passes. In 2015, he's on pace for 21.

Last week - against a Raiders defense that had given up two touchdown passes in its previous games each to Andy Dalton, Joe Flacco, Josh McCown and Jay Cutler - Manning had zero. All everyone talked about was his two interceptions to Charles Woodson.

Nothing lasts forever, including the explosive right arm of Peyton Manning. He's still a fine NFL quarterback, but after putting up negative points against the Raiders, his fantasy owners have become uneasy.

"Peyton's doing just fine," coach Gary Kubiak bristled.

Contest of the week

Keeping it in the Manning family, how many yards passing will Eli get on Monday against the Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field?

In the two meetings against the Eagles last season, Eli had his best passing game of the season (429 yards at home) and his worst (151 at the Linc).

Eli's averaging 283.4 this season while the Eagles are giving up 279.6.

The reader who comes closest to guessing Eli's passing yardage total will get a Daily News Fantasy Football T-shirt. In case of a tie, one winner will be chosen at random. Send guesses to FantasyFootball@phillynews.com by 8 p.m. Monday and include name and hometown. One entry per customer, please.

Did you know?

The Eagles are one of three defenses that have not allowed a rushing touchdown to an opposing running back. Seattle and Pittsburgh are the others. Seattle hosts Carolina and Pittsburgh hosts Arizona this week. The only rushing touchdown the Eagles have allowed was a 1-yarder to Washington quarterback Kirk Cousins.

Position watch

Quarterback: In his last three games, the Browns' Josh McCown has passed for 457, 356 and 341, respectively. He's also thrown two touchdowns in each. Though McCown's next four games are tough matchups (Denver, at St. Louis, Arizona and at Cincy), there's a very real chance his productivity will continue enough to consider as a QB1 because Cleveland can't run the ball . . . Buffalo's Tyrod Taylor (knee) was limited in Thursday's practice and is a risky start (foolish, even) against Cincinnati . . . Optimism is high that Andrew Luck will start for the Colts on Sunday night against visiting New England. Luck has missed the last two games with a shoulder injury.

Running back: Charcandrick West is the early favorite to replace Jamaal Charles as the Chiefs' top running back, but teammate Knile Davis is certainly lurking. After Charles went down with his season-ending knee injury, West had three carries and four passing targets while Davis had just two rushing attempts. Consider West a decent flex gamble this week against a Vikings defense that is 26th against the run . . . Marshawn Lynch should be back in fantasy lineups as an RB1, but continue to stash Thomas Rawls. Ya never know what could come up with the mercurial Lynch . . . Buck Allen is trending toward a start for Baltimore at San Fran. Allen, a fourth-round pick out of USC, has 124 yards on 26 carries this year. He has not scored a TD. Starter Justin Forsett is battling an ankle injury and missed practice again Thursday.

Wide receiver: Denver's Demaryius Thomas (neck) missed practice, but is expected to start at Cleveland . . . Miami's Jarvis Landry hasn't scored yet, but his 11.8 targets per game is tied with Julian Edelman for the league lead. If you can use Landry as a WR3 in a PPR league, you're sitting pretty . . . Pittsburgh's Martavis Bryant (four-game drug suspension) is expected to make his season debut. He should be rostered in leagues of 12 or more.
