Radio host Angelo Cataldi to undergo diverticulitis surgery

BEST WISHES to 94WIP morning host Angelo Cataldi, who will undergo surgery for diverticulitis Thursday at Virtua Hospital in Voorhees.

Cataldi was off the air Monday, and doctors have advised he stay out of work for three weeks, Cataldi's wife, Gail, told us Monday afternoon. "He's such an embellisher so I don't think people took this serious, but he was really sick," Gail said of Cataldi's bout with the digestive disease, which affects the bowels. She doubts her husband will listen to his doctors and stay out of work for three weeks, but Gail said she will encourage him to get all the rest he needs.

After 10 years in operation, Old City club 32 Degrees (16 S. 2nd) closed for good Saturday night.

Billing itself as a European luxe lounge, the club — opened in 2002 — was the first to introduce bottle service to the Philadelphia club scene. For better or worse, the service has since spread to many other clubs.

Barry Gutin, who co-owned the club along with partner Larry Cohen, said the duo chose not to renew the club's lease and to focus on their restaurants, which include Cuba Libre, and their catering company. Gutin thanked all the patrons and supporters of the club over the years. Among his favorite memories of 32 Degrees? Tripping over Patrick Ewing's legs while trying to approach Michael Jordan, and having a long conversation with actor Matthew Modine.

Before 32 Degrees occupied it, the spot had operated as a rock club called Upstairs at Nick's (it's above Nick's Roast Beef, which just changed hands and is closed this week for renovations).

A one-time haunt of many Eagles, Sixers and Flyers, the club also played host to Prince, Mark Wahlberg, Teri Hatcher, Gene Simmons, Jeremy Piven, and Jamie Foxx, among others, during its run.

Doorman Andrew "Dank" Dankanich, a Republican committeeman, worked at 32 Degrees since it opened, and had become a fixture along 2nd Street.

Bethenny Frankel will be at Xfinity Live at 5:30 p.m. next Monday for a happy-hour party and Q&A session hosted by Fox 29's Mike Jerrick and Karen Hepp and 95.7 BEN-FM's Marilyn Russell.

The former "Real Housewives of New York" star and Skinnygirl margarita mogul kicks off her own daytime talk show, "bethenny," at 11 a.m. Monday on Fox 29. Attendees can submit questions and win passes to a VIP reception with Frankel, who has a Bravo series, "Bethenny Ever After."

NBC10's vice president of news, Chris Blackman, is leaving the station June 15. No replacement has been announced. Blackman, who's been news director for 10 years, was lauded in an email by station GM Eric Lerner, who called the position "the most difficult job in the building," and said Blackman is a "great guy" had "led this team with class, courage, and compassion." Blackman did not return a request for comment about his plans or his feelings about leaving.

Colin Farrell bought a round of drinks for everybody at the bar at Time (1315 Sansom) the other night, when he stopped by with a handful of "Dead Man Down" crew members. We're told the reformed party boy didn't have any alcohol himself.

After arriving in town early to work Monday's Phillies/Dodgers game, ESPN's Tim Kurkjian and Aaron Boone, son of former Phillie Bob Boone, dined Sunday at Dandelion (18th & Sansom).

Promoter Damon Feldman is seeking 28 women to pillow-fight on the undercard of the fight between Nadya "Octomom" Suleman and Wired 96.5 morning co-host Shila on June 23 at the Marple Sports Arena in Broomall.
