Dan Gross: Punchless Canseco makes promoter see double

 JOSE CANSECO pulled the old switcheroo Saturday, sending his twin brother, Ozzie, in his place to fight in a Celebrity Boxing event at the Seminole Hard Rock, in Florida, according to promoter Damon Feldman.

Feldman says that he'd already paid the bad boy of baseball and "Celebrity Apprentice" castmate $5,000 for the fight and that Ozzie Canseco pretended to be Jose and demanded the remainder of his purse, $5,000 in cash, refusing Feldman's offer of a check. Ozzie also refused to fight.

Feldman says that Ozzie, who himself enjoyed a brief MLB career, was outed only after a photographer noticed that he was missing a Jose tattoo on his arm.

Late Saturday night, Jose posted on Twitter: "Be very careful with Damon Feldman who runs Celebrity Boxing he will not pay you if you fight for him." But a text message that Jose sent Feldman yesterday seems to back up Feldman's story. "If u pay my brother the 5k I will fight for u again and handle all the media that is calling me. And make u look good if not well ur on ur own," said the message sent from Canseco's cell.

Jose Canseco did not return a voicemail that we left him seeking comment.

Jose appeared in this area in two previous Feldman boxing events, fighting 94 WYSP's Danny Bonaduce and NBC 10's Vai Sikahema.

Ozzie Canseco is reported to have appeared at autograph shows and other paid public events, posing as his more famous, more talented brother. Ozzie could not be reached for comment.

While Eagles tight end Brent Celek hosted a table of supporters of his Take Flight Foundation, at Morton's (1411 Walnut) on Wednesday night, his boxer bride, Susie, was helping judge the Entertainer of the Year competition at Delilah's (100 Spring Garden). There, Payton took the top prize of $7,000, Winter walked away with $3,000 and Isis received $2,000. Other judges included Julie Dorenbos, Susie's partner in Skin Palette; former Eagle Brian Baldinger; five-time Wing Bowl champ Bill "El Wingador" Simmons; Brazilian jiu-jitsu instructor Ricardo Migliarese, of Center City's Balance Studios; local attorney Erin Elmore; "Bachelorette" alum Craig Robinson, who is being considered for a possible spot on ABC's "Bachelor Pad"; Italian bistro manager Greg Whiting; PhillyChitChat.com's HughE Dillon; and Your Humble Narrator.

Now back to Morton's. Temple football coach Steve Addazio and his coaching staff took the Pouncey brothers, Maurkice, now the Steelers center, and twin brother, Mike, there the other night. The Pounceys both played under Addazio at Florida, where he was an assistant coach.

When he's 64 . . .

Elton John sang The Beatles' "When I'm Sixty-Four" Friday night after the crowd of his Wells Fargo concert sang him "Happy Birthday," on, yes, his 64th birthday. After the show, someone in the audience also presented Sir Elton with a Phillies onesie for his baby son, Zachary.

He rode motorcycles with Liz

The death of Elizabeth Taylor brought to the mind of Cherry Hill's Casey Exton, publisher of Outlaw Biker magazine, the time he rode motorcycles with Taylor at the Jersey estate of biker enthusiast Malcolm Forbes, in 1987. Exton says that he'll never forget when Taylor gazed at him with her violet eyes, or the kiss she gave him after he presented the screen legend with an Outlaw Biker jacket, which she happily wore. The 1990 cover story on Taylor is a collectors' item, and Exton says that he's lucky if he has one copy.

'Real Housewife' comes to town

Jill Zarin, of "The Real Housewives of New York," her mother, Gloria Kamen, and sister Lisa Wexler will read from their book "Secrets of a Jewish Mother," April 5 at the Hadassah's Spring Gala, at Har Zion Temple (1500 Hagy's Ford), in Penn Valley. Tickets for the gala, chaired by Lori Levin and Sharon Taffet, are going fast and can be ordered until Wednesday at philly.hadassah.org. You need not be a member of Hadassah or Har Zion to attend.

Honor for Havertown film exec

Congratulations to Havertown native Lisa Schwartz, an executive vice president at the Independent Film Channel, who was one of the MultiChannel News 12 Wonder Women honored recently at a New York luncheon hosted by Natalie Morales, of the "Today" show, CNN's Candy Crowley and "Curb Your Enthusiam" scene-stealer Susie Essman.

Mr. Movie festival returns

The Battle of the Beehive is the theme for the second-annual Mr. Movie Film Festival, - in honor of the late Steve Friedman, known to 1210 AM listeners as Mr. Movie - at 1:15 p.m. April 3 at the Ambler Theater. The event features a screening of "Hairspray," and a dance party with dancers from "The Buddy Deane Show," which aired in Baltimore in the 1960s while "Bandstand" broadcast from Philadelphia. WPHT's Steve Ross and Crusin' 92.1's Steve Kurtz co-host the show, where radio personality Jackie Strauss and Mike Nise, former "Dancing on Air" producer, will appear as well. A portion of proceeds go to the National Kidney Foundation and the Mr. Movie, Stephen and Darragh Friedman Scholarship Fund to help a high-school student who has lost a parent. "A Boys Night Out," directed by Tony Cruz, starts shooting in the area this week. It stars Brian Anthony Wilson, whose credits include "The Wire," as well as Shaun Paul Costello and Angel Sanchez. The film deals with a guy who returns to his old neighborhood, where he encounters the people and problems that have made him a success.

Catch Conspirator at TLA

Conspirator, featuring Marc Brownstein and Aron Magner, of the Disco Biscuits, is playing at the TLA (334 South) on April 8, which is also Brownstein's birthday. Some fans of the hometown jam band are turning it into a birthday party for him.
