Dan Gross: Probation for Damon Feldman

CELEBRITY Boxing promoter Damon Feldman was sentenced yesterday to two years' probation after pleading no contest to charges of fixing fights and promoting fights without a license.

Former Attorney General (now governor) Tom Corbett charged Feldman in April with those counts, as well as several felonies previously dismissed by Judge Gregory Mallon, who oversaw yesterday's hearing in Media.

Under terms of his plea bargain, Feldman cannot promote any boxing events in Pennsylvania for two years. Since being charged he has staged events in New Jersey, Massachusetts and California. His combatants have included Jose Canseco, Rodney King, Willie Aames, Michael Lohan and Tonya Harding.

"I'm just excited to get this all behind me," Feldman said yesterday. He has no fights planned, and the former fighter, known as "The Jewish Bomber," is considering a return to training boxers and also possibly moving to Los Angeles. In May, he was briefly hospitalized after he e-mailed a suicide threat to friends. Broomall police took Feldman from his home without incident after responding to calls from those who received the e-mail.

As part of the plea, Feldman must pay restitution of $7,500 related to theft allegations, according to Nils Frederiksen, spokesman for the Attorney General's Office. If the money isn't paid, the state can refile its felony charges. The $7,500, an agreed-upon stipulation by the parties, goes to reimburse a former investor with Celebrity Boxing, according to Feldman's attorney Bob Bush.

Spike Lee to be honored Friday

Filmmaker Spike Lee and poet Sonia Sanchez are among honorees at the African American Musuem of Philadelphia's 35th annual Heritage Gala on Friday at the Downtown Marriott. Lee and Sanchez will attend the event, at which artist Moe Brooker and educator Edward Robinson also will be recognized. Joel Madden, kids at KOP Mall

Good Charlotte rocker Joel Madden and his two kids lunched yesterday at Legal Sea Foods at the King of Prussia Mall. Madden's wife, Nicole Richie, was absent. He lunched on clam chowder and a lobster roll.

Anchor's on diaper duty

It's a girl for CBS3 and CW Philly 57 anchor Anne-Marie Green and husband Algernong Allen. Their first child, Ailey Lynn Allen, was born Friday, 8 pounds, 10 ounces. Green joined CBS3 in 2004; Allen owns Elena's Soul Lounge (4912 Baltimore). They married in September 2009.

Our condolences to former Fox 29 anchor George Mallet on the death of his father, George Mallet-Prevost Jr., on Wednesday, his 83rd birthday. Mallet-Prevost, who lived in Delaware, was a jazz drummer, artist, editor and industrial designer. The TV newsman is now working at WPTZ in upstate New York/Vermont.

It's all happening at the zoo

The Philadelphia Zoo says it has just marked its two best years of consecutive attendance. The nation's first zoo, opened in 1874, had nearly 1.26 million guests in the past 12 months and 1.3 million the previous 12 months.

Rydell helping Variety
