Dan DeLuca's picks: Miley does Simon, and a new Pussy Riot song

Miley Cyrus, "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover." For those who didn't realize the pop provocateur star can actually sing, her Paul Simon cover on the Saturday Night Live 40th Anniversary show was more shocking than her "Wrecking Ball" video. Added in-joke: For her SNL performance, the often-unclothed singer dressed conservatively in a rhinestone studded Nudie suit. Watch here: http://bit.ly/1z3mKgK

"A Cold and Broken Hallelujah" by Tyler Dilts (Thomas & Mercer, $14.95). The third in crime writer Dilts' satisfying Long Beach Homicide series nods to Leonard Cohen, as battered and bruised detective Danny Beckett tries to get to the bottom of the murder of a homeless man on the sweltering Southern California streets.

J.D. McPherson. The retro-rocker and former schoolteacher from Broken Arrow, Okla., is a superb showman and bandleader who rips it up it up well and good on his new album, Let the Good Times Roll. Thursday at World Cafe Live.

Pussy Riot, "I Can't Breathe." The first song in English by Russian agit-rock singers Nadya Tolokkonnikova, Masha Alyokhina, and Yekaterina Samutsevich is partly a tribute to Eric Garner, who died at the hands of New York City police last summer, and partly a protest against Russian riot police. Fabled punk Richard Hell and Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner help out. Watch the video here: http://bit.ly/1LhUAae
