They met

In April 2006 on JDate.com, a Jewish dating site. The two divorcés had just signed up the day before. "He said he was dazzled by my picture and profile," Nancy says. "I loved his smile and what he wrote about himself" - loving, generous, accomplished and down-to-earth. Nancy, previously married for 20 years, was single, having just broken up with someone else. "David thought I looked 'gutsy.' He's a psychiatrist. He can tell." They went to Plate in Ardmore on their first date, and talked all night. "We closed down the restaurant," Nancy says. She firmly believes fate brought them together. "We were on and off [of JDate] in two weeks."

He asked

In late July 2006 at her home in Wynnewood. About two months previously, during a slow dance to Johnny Mathis, David had asked, "Is it crazy that I want to spend the rest of my life with you?" "No," she answered, "because I feel the same way." They went to Fisher Island, Fla., to visit his sister, a jewelry designer who helped them customize her radiant-cut diamond ring. Once it was ready, David got down on one knee to pop the question.

Nancy, 49, of Northeast Philadelphia, hosts in-home trunk shows for a line of women's clothing. David, 58, of Tel Aviv, is a psychiatrist in private practice in Bala Cynwyd and Wilmington.

Making a home

The couple live in Gladwyne.

Doing it their way

Nancy and David each have two sons, and the four boys held the cloth chuppah: Blake, 15, and Brett, 20 (hers), and Seth, 26 and Jonathan, 33 (his). David's daughter Tamar, 28, was ring bearer. The bride went for slink and sparkle, in an off-white, floor-length Carmen Marc Valvo gown, elbow-length gloves, tiara and short veil. Nancy wore a blue sapphire ring, owned by her late mother, Shirley Schwartz, as her "something old" along with a new set of pearls. The bride's friend Lamia Maatalah gave her smoky eyes and an updo as her wedding present.

Spread Eagle tenant Georges' catered the Atkins- and vegetarian-friendly heavy hors d'oeuvres. Nancy and David's chocolate chip wedding cake, with white chocolate curls and gold petals, came from Viking Pastries in Ardmore, and reflected the cream and gold color scheme. Guests sampled "tuxedo-style" chocolate-covered strawberries at their places.

Not a dry eye

During the ceremony, "my mother was heavily on my mind," the bride says. When Kazan mentioned Shirley, "I lost it at that point. The rabbi handed me his handkerchief."

Bloopers

During the kids' toasts to their parents, Brett commented that "after my mother's many failures, I'm glad she found David." Everyone laughed.

Nancy says

"Something will go wrong. Don't get upset. Nobody will know." Her other piece of advice: "Eat the food. Definitely eat the food!"
