Ashley Fox: Michael Vick has quickly become the biggest sports story in the country. Now we are forced into the discussion about how we are supposed to feel about him. Do we forgive? Do we forget?
Ashley Fox: Anyone who watched Shawn Andrews with the Eagles in 2008 and 2009 knows that this could be a devastating blow to the player - and consequently to the Giants.
Ashley Fox: Michael Vick was sick. There's no other way to put it. What he did to the Redskins should be against Roger Goodell's rules. It was as if Vick were controlling the defenders, making them run in slow motion as he blew past them.
Ashley Fox: After finishing last season among the NFL's top rookie receivers in receptions, yards, and touchdowns, Jeremy Maclin is on pace to top the 1,000-yard mark in receiving this season.
Ashley Fox: Now we know. Trading Donovan McNabb wasn't just about the Eagles' brass wanting Kevin Kolb to get a shot at being the starting quarterback. They no longer wanted McNabb for all the reasons Mike Shanahan didn't want him on Sunday.
Ashley Fox: "I told Andy [Reid] the other day, we have a great chance of winning this thing," Michael Vick said. He was not talking about winning the division, either.
Ashley Fox: Part of the collateral damage from Sunday's loss was that Kevin Kolb was unable to regain the starting job he lost to Michael Vick after Vick played so successfully while Kolb was on the bench with a concussion earlier this season.
Ashley Fox: Who is it going to be next week at Tennessee? Michael Vick, who played beautifully when Kevin Kolb was out with a concussion? Or Kolb, who has played well in these last two starts while Vick has been injured?
Michael Vick changed. When the game he had loved his entire life was taken from him - through a major fault of his own - Vick missed football more than he ever thought he would. He grew to appreciate the game, his freedom to play it, and his place in the National Football League. Vick's love for football is genuine; if it wasn't, he would not have played at the level he did before injuring his rib cartilage against Washington two weeks ago.
Ashley Fox: There is likely one person who wants Michael Vick to return to the Eagles' lineup even more than Vick does. That person is DeSean Jackson.
Ashley Fox: He needed this. Let's be real. Kevin Kolb had been through hell the last few weeks. So given another chance to be the Eagles starting quarterback Sunday night against the San Francisco 49ers, Kolb needed to make the most of it.
This is what Randy Moss wanted. There's no other way to look at it.
Moss orchestrated his exit from New England in just a few short weeks. He talked his way out of town. Never has it been done so efficiently. Even Terrell Owens must be jealous.
Ashley Fox: This morning, the NFL Network is showing a fascinating interview between Jim Mora and Eagles quarterback Michael Vick. At one point, Mora asks Vick about his time with the Falcons: "Were you conning me?"
Ashley Fox covers the NFL for The Inquirer.
