Bailey returns after two years

Andrew Bailey, a graduate of Paul VI High School in Haddon Township, made his first appearance in the majors since July 12, 2013, when he pitched in relief for the New York Yankees on Wednesday against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.

Bailey, who was coming back from shoulder surgery, entered the game in the sixth inning. He gave up one run on a hit and two walks in a third of an inning. The Yankees won, 13-8.

Utley homers in blue

Former Phillie Chase Utley hit his first home run for the Dodgers on Wednesday night. His solo shot in the sixth inning gave Los Angeles a 2-1 lead over visiting San Francisco in a game that ended too late for this edition.

Milestone home run for Pujols

Albert Pujols' two-run homer against A's ace Sonny Gray in the Angels' 9-4 win over Oakland gave him 35 for the year and 555 for his career.

With that, Pujols tied countryman Manny Ramirez for 14th on the all-time home run list. The Dominican first baseman also joined Hall of Famers Willie Mays (10) and Mike Schmidt (11) and Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez (12) to have reached 35 home runs in 10 or more years.

Strasburg to miss turn

Stephen Strasburg won't make his next scheduled start for the Washington Nationals on Friday.

Strasburg was limited to four innings by upper back tightness his last outing.

The righthander is scheduled to throw an extended bullpen session Thursday, and manager Matt Williams said Strasburg would need at least two days after that before pitching.
