Did we forget somebody?

The San Francisco Giants had just beaten the Dodgers, 9-5, Friday night at Dodger Stadium.

Manager Bruce Bochy left the park to get on the team bus. Only . . . no bus.

The Giants team bus had left without the manager.

One might think a guy who had led a team to three World Series championships in the last five years might be missed when it came time to leave.

Bochy, though, took the whole thing in stride and called a cab.

Big Papi's milestone

Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz homered leading off the fourth inning against Kansas City for his 476th career round-tripper, moving him past Hall of Famers Stan Musial and Willie Stargell into 28th place on the all-time career home run list.

Scherzer all smiles

A day later, Max Scherzer couldn't stop smiling.

"I'm doing great," the Nationals righthander said the morning after he threw a no-hitter and came within a strike of a perfect game before hitting Pittsburgh's Jose Tabata in Washington's 6-0 victory.

"I didn't get much sleep, but that's for a good reason, just on a high from the game."

Scherzer came within one strike of throwing the 22d perfect game in major league history since 1900.

In his last two starts, Scherzer has retired 54 of 57 batters with a combined 26 strikeouts. He is 8-5 with a 1.76 ERA for the season.

Happ streak ends

Mariners lefty and one-time Phillie J.A. Happ had never lost a start against Houston, one of his former teams. Not until Sunday at Safeco Field. He had been 3-0 with a 3.48 ERA in five starts vs. the Astros. He worked five innings and left the game trailing 3-2. The bullpen gave up three more to the Astros and Houston won, 6-2. Happ is 3-4 this season.

Weaver goes on DL

Los Angeles Angels pitcher Jered Weaver has been placed on the 15-day disabled list and will undergo an MRI on his left hip.

One day after Weaver suffered his fourth consecutive defeat in the Angels' 4-1 loss to the Oakland Athletics, the Angels decided to put the righthander on the DL to give his sore hip time to rest.

Tommy John surgery for Yankees' Santos

New York Yankees righthander Sergio Santos is going to have season-ending Tommy John surgery, and lefthander Jacob Lindgren is set to have a bone spur removed from his elbow.

The Yankees made the announcement two days after Santos, an oft-injured reliever, was placed on the disabled list with elbow inflammation.
