Touch 'Em All: Broken wrist puts Werth out of action

Washington Nationals outfielder Jayson Werth, who has been on the disabled list with a wrist injury, got more bad news Thursday. A CT scan revealed he has two small fractures in his left wrist and could be out of action until August, a source told The Washington Post.

Washington Nationals outfielder Jayson Werth, who has been on the disabled list with a wrist injury, got more bad news Thursday. A CT scan revealed he has two small fractures in his left wrist and could be out of action until August, a source told The Washington Post.

The 36-year-old Werth, who played for the Phillies from 2007 to 2010, has appeared in only 27 games for the Nationals this year. He is batting .208 with two home runs and 27 RBIs.

Werth's wrist will be immobilized for four weeks, according to the Post, and he then will undergo rehabilitation with the hope he could return in August.

Play ball again?

The mayor of Montreal asked the commissioner Rob Manfred to consider playing three or four regular-season games in the city next year.

Mayor Denis Coderre met with Manfred in New York. Coderre said six or seven teams have expressed an interest in playing there in 2016.

Montreal had the Expos from 1969 through 2004. The team then moved to Washington. Two exhibition games in Montreal between the Blue Jays and Reds in early April drew a total of more than 96,000 fans to Olympic Stadium.

Manfred has said the interest shown by Montreal meant it passed the first test toward a return of baseball. He added the city needs a new stadium to get an expansion team or a club to relocate.
