Sideshow: Little flick 'conjures' big numbers

Insidious helmer James Wan's lil' $20 mil demon-infested house shocker The Conjuring beat the big-budget boys at the box office, earning $41.5 mil in its opening weekend, according to studio estimates. Starring Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, the picture even earned critical acclaim with an 85 percent positive rating among critics on rottentomatoes.com.

The Steve Carell-voiced animated sequel Despicable Me 2 is at No. 2 with $25.1 mil. The family pic has earned almost $585 mil since its July 3 release.

Third place belongs to another animated comedy, Turbo, which features a stellar voice cast including Ryan Reynolds, Paul Giamatti, and Samuel L. Jackson. It made $21.5 mil. Adam Sandler's Grown Ups 2 ($20 mil), and Bruce Willis' Red 2 ($18.5 mil) round out the top five.

Modern Family's Jesse Tyler Ferguson, 37, on Saturday exchanged matrimonial vows with lawyer Justin Mikita, 27, in a ceremony in downtown New York, People reports. Legendary playwright Tony Kushner officiated the ceremony, which was attended by Julie Bowen, Eric Stonestreet, Ty Burrell, Nigel Lythgoe, Cat Deely, Mary Murphy, Padma Lakshmi, Jerry O'Connell, Rebecca Romijn, Zachary Quinto, and Isaac Mizrahi.

Pop star-thesp Pink has been gushing about her daughter, Willow Sage Hart, since the bairn was born in June 2011. But Doylestown's proudest daughter wasn't always so keen on becoming a mum. "I didn't want kids," Pink, 33, tells GQ Australia. "I was terrified."

Pink and husband Carey Hart had animated debates. "He always wanted kids," she says, "and then we did it, and now it's like, [bleep] this is so rad. It's more important than anything we've done."

Glee mastermind Ryan Murphy says show producers did discuss canceling the musical after Cory Monteith's tragic death, but decided the show must go on. They did so, Murphy says, only after Monteith's costar and real-life girlfriend, Lea Michele, gave them her blessings.

"When you're faced with something so sad and so shocking, what do you do?" Murphy tells the Hollywood Reporter. "Ultimately, we decided the best thing for everyone is to get back to work and be around people who . . . loved him."

E! News says the Fox musical will return for its fifth season a week late, on Sept. 26, but only for three episodes that will deal with the death of Monteith's character, Finn Hudson. The third epsiode will feature a special tribute to the actor. Then the series will take an "extended hiatus" to allow the creative team to refocus the dramedy, Murphy tells E! News.
