What is it? Homestyle comfort food, served up by charismatic chef Verna Swerdlow: "We make stuff we have hankerings for, nothing too over the top." Expect sandwiches, mac n' cheese and other classics straight from mom's kitchen.
What to eat: Verna's menu rotates seasonally, and this winter's top dishes are the tender and juicy flank steak sandwich with chipotle mayo, and the pulled-pork grilled cheese. Come summer, the truck will switch to jambalaya and banh mi - the Vietnamese equivalent of hoagies, yo.
Not a carnivore? Vernalicious also plates veggie burgers and standard grilled cheese.
Where to find it: The truck hits LOVE Park on Tuesdays and then rotates between Drexel (33rd and Arch streets) and the corner of Frankford and Girard for the rest of the week.
If you're not sure, check Facebook (on.fb.me/YycSvi) for updates.
Food for thought: The truck was recently crowned the People's Choice winner at the 2012 Vendy Awards (the Oscars of mobile food delivery) and will be featured on "Eat St.," Food Network Canada's street-vendor showcase.
People Paper copy editor Vinny Vella dreams of one day opening his own food truck. For now, he'll settle for patronizing them.
