Tra Thomas training Camden High football team

NBC News' Jenna Wolfe spent Monday in Medford with former Eagles tackle Tra Thomas at his youth strength and conditioning center, 7 Deuce Sports.

Thomas is offering the Camden High football team eight weeks of free strength and conditioning coaching at his facility. "Everything that's been going on in Camden, we were looking for a school we could give something to who would take advantage of it," Thomas told us Wednesday. Wolfe, co-host of the weekend "Today" show and former sportscaster for Channel 17, said she liked that Thomas requires the students to donate time toward community service in exchange for the free training.

Her piece will air Saturday or Sunday on "NBC Nightly News."

CBS 3 anchor Ukee Washington, who's been off a few weeks recovering from hip-replacement surgery, joins his co-host Pat Ciarrocchi on "Talk Philly" via live shot from his physical-therapy treatment at noon Thursday as the station celebrates its 80th anniversary. W3XE, as it was known on June 28, 1932, was Philadelphia's first television station. It will be showing its original test pattern on-air for the next several days.

Locally raised "Family Guy" and "American Dad" producer Kara Vallow just purchased a 54-acre estate in New Hope, reports CurbedPhilly.com. Vallow, longtime collaborator of "Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane, now owns Twin Creeks Farm, which features a stone house, a barn, a carriage house, and a pool with a waterfall. Curbed reports the property was recently listed for just under $2.6 million.

Takeru Kobayashi, who for years dominated the annual Nathan's Famous July Fourth International Hot Dog Eating Contest, this year competes in a rival event, the first Crif Dog Classic in Brooklyn. The 11 a.m. contest will be broadcast live on SI.com. Local pro eaters Dave "U.S. Male" Goldsteinand David "Tiger Wings" Brunelli are due to take part. For info, crifdogclassic.com. As for Nathan's, reigning champion Joey Chestnut (also a three-time winner of Sportsradio 94WIP's Wing Bowl) is hard at work training to retain the coveted mustard yellow belt in what could be his sixth-straight victory. That contest, held outside the original Nathan's at Coney Island, airs live at 3 p.m. July 4 on ESPN.

Dead Milkmen frontman Rodney Anonymous is joining the lineup of Y-Not Radio starting at 9 p.m. Friday, when he launches "Rodney Anonymous Tells You How to Live" on the Internet radio station at ynotradio.net. Burlesque performer Jacqueline Hyde, developer David Grasso and Your Humble Narrator serve as judges of the Big Reveal, the main event of this weekend's PA Burlesque Festival, at 8 p.m. Saturday at the TLA (334 South St.). Female dancers compete for the Crystal Corset Award and $1,000 prize.

Ryan Guzman and Kathryn McCormick, stars of the dance drama "Step Up: Revolution," will sign autographs from 11 to 11:45 a.m. Saturday at the Wawa Welcome America! festival's Taste of Philadelphia event at Penn's Landing's Old City Stage at Front & Chestnut streets. The film opens in theaters July 27.

Kildare's Irish Pub (4417 Main) holds a fundraiser for Project Children from 12-3 p.m. Sunday. Frank Daly of Jamison Celtic Rock and other area musicians will perform at the benefit, which features Irish dancers, face-painting and more. Price is $20 for adults, $10 for kids and free for children under 10, and includes select beer and liquor and an appetizer buffet. Project Children is an American-Northern Ireland partnership dedicated to teaching Protestant and Catholic kids to live together peacefully.
