Two-time Oscar-nominated The Hurt Locker star Jeremy Renner, 40, didn't make Hollywood's A-list until he was in his late 30s. He spent his youth starving for his art. "I wasn't super-happy being so poor. Eating on $10 a month - probably not very good for you," Renner tells Details about the years he made ends meet by fixing up old houses. ($10 a month?!) "But I loved what I was doing. Not every actor gives their life to do this job." Renner, costarring with Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, couldn't even afford romance. "I couldn't afford to date," he says. "I didn't even have electricity. You try to put a positive spin on it, like, 'Hey, this is so sexy - look at all these candles!' " He hasn't lost his love for construction. "Building a house is like producing a movie," he says. "There's no right way to do it, but a lot of wrong ways. You have to be flexible and creative. . . . These sound like life lessons. It certainly affected how I approach my life."

The Kim Kardashian tragedy . . .

Poor reality star Kim Kardashian keeps suffering in the wake of her failed 72-day, $17.8 million-earning marriage to Kris Humphries. Kim isn't to blame for the dissolution of her marriage, says Us Weekly, which claims Kris was the real villain in their ill-fated union. Seems Kris verbally abused her daily. "He belittled her in front of people," Anonymous Insider tells the mag. "He'd call her stupid. It was truly sickening." Wonder which camp leaked this tidbit. Adds Insider: "One time, he said she had no talent and her fame wouldn't last." Kris even subjected her to a fate worse than death, worse than torture and mutilation - he called her fat.

Philly's Kate G. gets face-lift?

Speaking of fates worse than death, Philly's proud daughter Kate Gosselin, who righteously shed her husband, Jon, is reportedly so terrified of aging and so "consumed with her appearance," as Anonymous Source tells Us Weekly, she has gone under the plastic surgeon's knife dozens, millions, billions of times during her less-than-successful career as a pro celebrity. Reportedly, Kate got a tummy tuck in '07 and breast implants in '09. The source tells the gossip glossy that Kate has previously given herself Botox injections and has tanning sessions at least three times a week! Kate, who is supporting her eight kids as a blogger for a consumer coupon website, just had a face-lift, Us Weekly also claims. Yet we know, somehow, that inside, Kate is still beautiful.
