On the Market: Waterfront Moorestown home for $1,750,000
On the Market profiles homes for sale in the Philadelphia region.
Louis Joseph and his wife, Nina, weren’t planning on moving from Southampton, N.J. with their two young kids in 1998. But something drew them to another South Jersey town that they say was “meant to be.”
Although the couple was happy in their Southampton home, they would frequently drive by the Peachtree Point development in Moorestown just for fun.
“We had known about this particular neighborhood for a few years,” Joseph said. “We would drive through and just admire the homes and the fact that they were on the water.”
Joseph, the CEO of a local manufacturing business, says one day while driving around, he and Nina noticed a for sale sign in front of one of their favorite homes. Located at 32 Cove Road, the 5,000-plus-square-foot home sat on nearly five acres with property down to the Rancocas Creek.
That was on a Friday. They called the Realtor and got a tour of the property over the weekend. By Monday, they had made an offer.
They weren’t expecting to buy the home, but once the couple walked in for the first time they were blown away.
“I walked into the foyer and that was it,” Joseph said. “It was light and airy and I could see the water from inside the house. We were coming from a darker home.”
The couple moved in and spent the next 15 years raising their son and daughter in the Burlington County home. Although they were the first homeowners of the five-bedroom, four-and-a-half bath property and everything was new, they put in nearly $750,000 of renovations and upgrades, which was an ongoing process for more than 10 years.
The largest addition – the indoor pool and sunroom – was added in 2001.
“I’ve been around water my whole life; I grew up in an area in South Jersey where there were lakes,” Joseph said. “I’ve always been a big swimmer and just thought that it would be a nice feature.”
The couple removed the deck that was on the back of the home adjacent to the kitchen, which is where they built the sunroom around the pool.
Later on, they added a theater room, den, workout room, and bar in the basement.
They completed many other upgrades as well: they redid the bathrooms, the landscaping in the backyard, and even added in smart home technology, which allows them to control the security system, music, and lights from an iPad or computer.
Some other special features include an elevator, a gazebo close to the Rancocas, and a stone gas fireplace.
After spending more than 15 years in the home, the couple – who have been married for 30 years and are from South Jersey originally– are making a move to Philadelphia. Their children – now graduated from college – are out of the house, and they’re looking to downsize in the city. To start this new chapter in their lives, they have put the home on the market for $1,750,000.
