Car enthusiasts can take fascinating strolls through automotive history by visiting any one of scores of great automobile museums, not only here in North America, but in such far flung locales as Tokyo, Stuttgart and Brescia, Italy.

These four U.S. automobile museums rank in the top ten globally, according to Edmunds, the Santa Monica, Calif., automotive pricing and information company.

Petersen Automotive Museum, Los Angeles. (2)

The museum's 200 historic cars are showcased in dioramas that depict their eras.

National Corvette Museum, Bowling Green, Ky. (4)

Spotlights the best years' models in the same town that has produced all Corvettes since 1961.

National Auto Museum (Harrah Collection), Reno (7)

William Harrah built casinos and collected fine cars, 200 of which are displayed here.

Studebaker National Museum, South Bend, Ind. (8)

Vehicles on display range from the trend-setting 1950s-era "bullet-nosed" Studebakers all the way back to an 1835 Conestoga wagon. -
