Rick Tate Jr. performed at the first Kids Night at Showtime at the Apollo in 1993 and went right into being a producer as well as performing musician, gigging with Lou Rawls, Wynton Marsalis, Terell Stafford, Shirley Scott, Ronnie Barrage, Sid Simmons, Byran Landham -- the list goes on, and all while in his teens. He also toured five years with R&B musician Musiq Soulchild, as well as Jill Scott for three years, and currently plays for The Roots, along with being the leader of his own jazz ensemble.
