The program features retired US congressman BARNEY FRANK narrating Gunther Schuller's 1962 classic Journey Into Jazz. Congressman Frank's stature as an important liberal voice in the Congress and a spokesperson for LGBTQ concerns is well known. Also on the program is Swarthmore's ANDREW HAUZE as soloist in Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 12, K. 414 conducted by Haverford's HEIDI JACOB. Artistic director JAMES FREEMAN, emeritus professor of music at Swarthmore College, leads the rest of the program, including a newly commissioned piece for jazz quintet and string orchestra, and Mozart's Symphony No. 29, K. 201. A half-hour discussion with congressman Frank and the musicians will precede the concert.
