Digital-first Manayunk company is all about its physical working space

Despite being an all-digital company, Delphic Digital understands that physical space will always be an important benefit for employees.

“We were very fortunate to find our amazing and unique office space,” said Beth Perkins, Talent Acquisition Manager. “It’s a converted textile factory in Manayunk, and offers a bright, open, and inviting environment. High ceilings, giant windows and skylights, beautiful original hardwood floors, and exposed ductwork lend a funky ‘loft’ vibe.”

Perkins said the digital marketing and branding company - which counts Comcast, Delaware North and American Standard as clients - prioritized finding a unique space for creative thinking and collaboration, and then made sure their 78 employees made themselves comfortable.

“Everyone gets an adjustable stand/sit desk, a laptop with an external monitor for extra screen real estate, and the ability to work from home when needed,” Perkins said. “We also have three rotating beer taps, a ping pong table, flexible lounge areas, and a dog-friendly policy. We want the office to feel homey and inviting.”

And the comfort extends beyond the office. Delphic recently revised its vacation policy to offer unlimited paid time off to employees who are with the company for five years or more.  They also offer a lot of flexibility on a day-to-day basis “because we know that balancing work and life can be demanding,” Perkins said.

Prioritizing the physical space and putting the employees comfort first are just a few of the reasons Delphic earned a spot on our 2017 Top Workplaces survey.

Established in 2003, this is Delphic’s first time being named to the list.

And since the younger company is based in the online world, it should come as no surprise that their workforce trends younger.

“Being an all-digital agency, hiring people who grew up in an all-digital world is an advantage for us,” Perkins said.

While some companies might be weary of hiring millennials, Delphic embraces them.

“I think Millennials get a bad rap. In my experience, they’re very industrious, curious, and driven, they just expect different things out of their work than previous generations,” Perkins said.

For Perkins, the key in managing any employee is to foster a culture of open communication.

“You have to work to understand what motivates them, how they like to be managed, and move the big rocks for them so they can be successful,” she said.

In the end, Delphic’s No. 1 priority is its environment.

“We have been very thoughtful and deliberate about building the environment we want to live in every day,” Perkins said. “Our values are all around collaboration, innovation, curiosity, and passion. That’s what we hire for and that’s the best way to describe the atmosphere here.”
