How the Top Workplaces 2010 was compiled

Producing the Top Workplaces 2010 section

The 34,616 employees in the Philadelphia region who participated in our survey were asked to rate their company's chief executive officer in response to this prompt: "I have confidence in the leader of this organization."

The leaders with the highest scores among large, medium, and small companies are our winners.

Jeff Kaliner, owner and CEO, Power Windows & Siding

Top leader, midsize companies

Kaliner's Brookhaven company is a home-remodeling contractor that specializes in energy-efficient replacement windows, entry doors, and vinyl siding. He has ramped up the business since our survey went out in the fall and now employs about 250 workers in the region. Power Windows & Siding is also a multimedia-marketing juggernaut. Possibly, you've heard the jingle?

Leadership motto: "Leadership is really about sharing the wealth - not money, necessarily, but empowerment to make decisions."

What his employees said: "His insight is always shrewd, penetrating, and paradigm-shifting."
