Think work is all about the pay and benefits? Then, you probably don't work at one of the top workplaces in the Philadelphia region.

Fewer than half of the 26,483 workers surveyed for the 2013 WorkplaceDynamics survey - 45 percent - cited the fairness of their pay as an important factor for working where they do.

The importance value shows how strongly each statement correlates with how employees in the Delaware Valley rate their workplaces. The closer importance was ranked to 100 percent, the more important the statement was to the respondent.

Only one third - 33 percent - said having a benefits package comparable to others in the same industry was important to them.

Instead, most top workplace workers said it was more important that they thought their company was heading in the right direction (68 percent), that they had confidence in their corporate leader (64 percent), and that senior management knows what it's doing (61 percent).

Pay and bennies also took a backseat to a feeling of being genuinely appreciated at the company (67 percent), confidence in their own future there (65 percent) and a belief that the work they were doing was meaningful (63 percent).

Stong corporate ethics and values (59 percent), a feeling that the job has met or exceeded their expectations (58 percent), efficiency and managers who care about employee concerns (56 percent each) also took precedence over paychecks and health insurance coverage.

Just don't tell your boss that if you're up for a raise.

try working where i am at.no professionalism, frustration, confusion,a boss(owner) that doesn't care about anyone but himself ,no bennies,no leadership ,low pay for my abilities yelled at and put down and getting fired for asking for a raise.used to love going to work, now cant wait to leave for the day.and of course i am seeking a new place of employment.cant wait to get out of that hellhole.i will take one for a little less money for a better situation.

Harvey, Sorry to hear that. Keep looking for work that means something to you beyond the paycheck... it'll help you get through the times that you want to ram your boss's head through a wall. Good luck!

Of course it's all about pay and benefits, and this survey doesn't negate that point. When you look at the top three factors that people listed -- company headed in right direction, confidence in leadership, senior management knows what it's doing -- you see that they're about whether the company will be around in the future. In other words, people are concerned to know that there will still be a company and a job for them two or three or five years down the road. And the reason this matters, of course, is that they want to be sure they'll be able to continue to draw their pay and benefits.

Bet they only polled government workers or people who have never been laid off. Did they poll anyone who is out of work?

If the only reason you come to work every day is for pay and benefits, then you are as good as dead- a walking corpse.

Good pay and benefits are important, but if that's the whole thing for you, you have my sympathy.

harveytrabbit, who is holding you at gunpoint, forcing you to work in your self-described "hellhole"? Hmm? You don't like it, then GO!
