Interstate 676 will be closed overnight from June 5 to June 8 for construction work, including on the 18th Street bridge.

Motorists should brace for another week of overnight closures on the Vine Street Expressway.

Interstate 676 will be closed in both directions between the Schuylkill Expressway (Interstate 76) and Broad Street overnight this week. The closures will be in place from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday through Thursday, according to PennDot.

The closures are due to construction work on the 22nd Street and 18th Street bridges. The 18th Street bridge, the last of the spans to go under construction, closed last month and will remain inaccessible to motorists and pedestrians for about a year.

PennDot is in the middle of a $64.8 million project to rebuild seven deteriorated bridges over the Vine Street Expressway.

Stretches of the expressway have been repeatedly closed overnight throughout the project, which began in April 2015. PennDot says the project is expected to be finished in late 2018, about a year earlier than initially anticipated.
