SEPTA is planning to announce a "major" change at the transit agency's Market East station this week.
The agency has scheduled a Thursday news conference to provide details about the change. Officials slated to attend include SEPTA general manager Joseph Casey, board chairman Pasquale Deon, City Councilman Mark Squilla, and SEPTA board member Cuyler Walker.
SEPTA didn't provide additional details about the planned change; spokeswoman Kristin Geiger said she couldn't comment in advance of Thursday's event.
The announcement comes a week after Technical.ly Philly reported that the Market East station may be renamed Jefferson Station, a nod to the nearby Thomas Jefferson University and hospital.
