SEPTA 'blitz' to curtail trolley service for 17 days

A five-mile stretch of trolley tracks running from University City to City Hall will be shut down for more than two weeks as SEPTA makes improvements on the line.

A five-mile stretch of trolley tracks running from University City to City Hall will be shut down for more than two weeks as SEPTA makes improvements on the line.

The "Trolley Tunnel  Blitz," running from Aug. 1 to Aug. 18, means that Trolley Routes 10, 11, 13, 34 and 36 will be out of commission from 40th and Market Streets to 15th Street. Trolley passengers can pick up Market-Frankford Line at 40th Street to commute to City Hall.

According to SEPTA, crews will work 24/7 to improve the trolley route's safety and service.

The work cannot be done overnight.

"[I]t would take many months of night and weekend outages, spread out over the year, to complete the amount of work we have planned during this Blitz," said a SEPTA spokesman in a statement.
