Spirit Airlines, which now flies from Philadelphia to five cities, will add a new daily nonstop route to Los Angeles from Philadelphia International Airport, starting April 14.

The Miramar, Fla.,-based carrier, which offers lower base fares but charges extra for everything, including a carry-on bag and advance seat assignment, said the new service from Philadelphia and six other cities demonstrate the airline's "commitment to low fares in the Los Angeles market," said Spirit vice president Mark Kopczak. The flights will go into Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). "We'll be able to connect more customers on the west coast."

Spirit currently flies from Philadelphia airport to Dallas-Fort Worth, Atlanta, Chicago, Las Vegas, and Myrtle Beach, S.C. Spirit operates more than 370 daily flights to 56 destinations in the United States, Latin America, and the Caribbean.
