Amtrak investigating wrong-turn train

An Amtrak train with 130 passengers took a wrong turn on its way to New York last week and ended up at SEPTA's Bala Cynwyd station.

Train 644, traveling from Harrisburg, apparently went past a signal after leaving Philadelphia's 30th Street Station on Thursday, and moved onto SEPTA's Cynwyd line, the transit agency's least-traveled route.

After Amtrak, under SEPTA supervision, got the train back to 30th Street Station, Train 644's passengers were placed on another Amtrak train to complete their journey to New York.

"An investigation was launched and the crew has been held out of work until they can be fully debriefed and additional training can be conducted," an Amtrak spokesman said.
