AT&T sues screen makers, alleging price-fixing

NEW YORK - AT&T Inc. is suing the major makers of LCD screens for cell phones, saying they colluded to raise the prices the carrier paid for 300 million cell phones.

AT&T filed the suit Tuesday in U.S. District Court in San Francisco. It didn't specify what damages it sought.

Hitachi Displays Ltd., LG Display Co. Ltd., Sharp Corp., and Chunghwa Picture Tubes Ltd., all of whom were named in the suit, have already pleaded guilty to U.S. charges of price-fixing, settling them for more than $600 million in fines.

AT&T's suit also names Epson Electronics America, Samsung Electronics Co., Sharp Corp. and Toshiba Corp., saying they fixed prices between 1996 and 2006.

The companies didn't immediately respond to e-mails seeking comment.
