SMG, a West Conshohocken facilities management firm, won a contract to manage Shenzhen World Exhibition & Convention Center, which will be one of the largest convention centers when completed, SMG said Tuesday. The first phase is scheduled to open in 2019.

"We look forward to operating a world-class facility in China's most progressive international business center," SMG president and chief executive Wes Westley said in a news release.

The design of the Shenzhen facility, which broke ground in September, calls for 4.3 million square feet of exhibition space. It will be roughly twice the size of McCormick Place in Chicago, which is the largest meeting and exhibition space in North America, SMG said. The Pennsylvania Convention Center has 679,000 square feet of exhibit space.

SMG said it provides management services to more than 230 facilities and manages more than 15 million square feet of exhibition space.
