To inspire would-be entrepreneurs among the student body, Temple University on Friday officially will open Blackstone LaunchPad, an on-campus center at the Howard Gittis Student Center, 13th Street and Montgomery Avenue.

The center is funded with $1.2 million of a $3 million, three-year grant from the Blackstone Charitable Foundation made to Temple, Philadelphia University and the University City Science Center to help students develop ideas into business ventures.

Since Temple LaunchPad's soft opening last year, 11 new companies have formed, with seven producing revenue.
