On The Market: Parking for two on the site of a former brewery in Rittenhouse

On the Market profiles homes for sale in the Philadelphia region.

It was 1984 when Flora Wolf's children were heading to college, and she knew it was time to sell her Mt. Airy home and find some excitement.

"I thought, 'this is the time to move into town and start a new life,'" she said. "Bringing up my kids in Mt. Airy was terrific. As an adult, it's much better to be in town."

She bought a three-bedroom home at 1744 Lombard Street, becoming the second owner of the property since it was built on the site of a former brewery in the early 1970s.

The site provided space for a single row of homes with a very important feature: a driveway and parking.

"The developer made a really smart decision to do the common driveway and the parking spaces and not try to squeeze in the second row of houses," Wolf said.

When she bought the home, she was more interested in the large back yard, but she suspects the parking spaces will help her now that she's decided to sell it.

"I didn't realize at the time how important parking would be," she said. "But I came to understand it."

The three bedroom, two-and-a-half bathroom house is currently listed with realtor Isaac Ellman at $765,000. Among its unique features is a lower-level dining and kitchen area that lead directly to a patio.

"The back of the house faces south and all the light comes in the morning into the dining room," said Wolf as she described her favorite part of the home. "On a morning, to be able to sit at the dining room table and look out at the yard and feel the sun – that has always been great," she said.

When she moved in, Wolf excavated the patio, making enough room for outdoor dining and a small container garden leading out to the yard.

In addition to the precious two-car parking, the Colonial home also features copious built-in shelving, two and a half baths and additional den space upstairs.

Wolf says she is selling the house so that she and her partner can buy something new together.
