On the Market profiles homes for sale in the Philadelphia region.

Builder Fred Abrams is used to buying and constructing multimillion-dollar homes on the Main Line. But he grew up in Manayunk and still manages properties there and in Roxborough with his company Renaissance Builders.

“When opportunities present themselves, we take advantage,” he said.

When a corner lot on Roxoborough Avenue became available almost a year ago, Abrams jumped at it.

“It’s right across the street from a park,” he said. “I would live there myself. The adage is location, location, location.”

Abrams and Renaissance raised an unusual home for Roxborough Avenue: a three-bedroom single built on what was once an empty lot.

Building from scratch also gave him the opportunity to install custom finishes throughout. Thoughtful details include three-quarter-inch solid hickory flooring and rounded corners on all the drywall. Cabinets are custom throughout the home.

“The thing I had the most fun with was the kitchen,” Abrams said. “I love picking out the counters and the granite and the backsplash.”

Renaissance also took advantage of PGW’s Energy Sense program, which compensates owners for installing environmentally friendly appliances.

“It’s a bonus for the consumer because all of their costs are going to be less,” Abrams said.

He said another feature unique to the home is its soaring 15-foot ceilings in the living room.

“I’m really about volume,” he said.

The three bedroom, two and a half bathroom home has two floors, but high ceilings provide room enough for a lofted open space overlooking the living room.

In addition to all the interior air, the home features two separate roof decks outside, stacked one on top of the other.

“It’s one of the tallest houses around,” Abrams said.

The house is listed for $499,000 with Michele Cooley and Tyler Bradley of Berkshire Hathaway Home Services Fox & Roach Realtors in Chestnut Hill, specialists in city new construction.
