When Peter Adels bought his Graduate Hospital home in 2003, it was the dichotomy of the 140-year-old home's architecture that drew him in.
"I loved the way it retained much of the original features of layout and architectural details while including the modern upgrades," he said.
There was also one other very specific amenity.
"I loved having a bidet," he said. "Something you don't see often."

Adels said most of his renovation work in the intervening decade or so has focused on opening up spaces.
"I installed the patio and opened the dining room wall into the archway," he said.
At over 2,000 square feet, the four-bedroom, two-bath home offers lots of living and entertaining space over its three stories. The brick patio Adels installed out back features flowerbeds and a privacy fence. He said the garden and patio are his favorite part of the home.
"I loved having my morning coffee and reading the paper there," he said.
Adels has watched the Graduate Hospital neighborhood change and grow during the nearly 14 years he's owned his home.
"When I first moved in, I was a bit nervous having my sons go around by themselves," he said. "But now it's the place to be."
He recently decided to list the property for sale.
"Kids moved on and I don't need a big house," Adels said.
And he's confident that some of the same things that drew him to the property will attract new buyers.
"It's a price point and rehab level that makes it totally livable now," he said. "With opportunities for upgrades when the buyer wants in the buyer's own way. "
