Jason Silen is sure he lives in the best condo in Philadelphia.
“We purchased the home in 2005 after searching the entire city for the best property,” he said.
The Old City condo was first a telegraph office in the 19th century, then a textile factory and an insurance office, before undergoing renovations in the early 2000s to convert the building to residences. Silen said he was taken by the home’s history, among other features.
“We were drawn to the spacious layout, location and the historical charm of the building and original features,” he said.
The condo includes more than 1,600 square feet of living space and boasts details like original, wide-plank flooring, high ceilings, and enormous windows. Silen said his favorite period detail is the original, ceiling-mounted gear in the master suite, which once served industrial purposes for textile workers.
“It’s truly a piece of history and a conversation piece with each guest,” he said.
The loft-like space also features an open stairwell and two private bedrooms and bathrooms. Silen said the size of the home makes it stand out from other condos.
Now that the property is listed for sale, Silen said he expects the neighborhood to be as big a draw to buyers as the architecture.
“Old City is the most magical neighborhood, filled with parks, history, restaurants, coffee shops, independent movie theaters, boutiques, galleries and bars,” he said. “It has everything you need right outside your front door.”
“We are moving out west for a new adventure and saying goodbye — for now — to our beloved Philadelphia,” Silen said.
