The most expensive houses for sale in Montgomery County

100 Maple Hill Rd., Gladwyne

Montgomery County is fairly well known for its wealth. The median household income, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, is nearly $82,000, and the median value of an owner-occupied house is about $294,000. So we were interested in taking a look at what some of the most expensive properties in one of Pennsylvania’s wealthiest counties might look like. We were not disappointed. The “cheapest” home among the bunch is $16.5 million. As our second-favorite groundhog likes to say, keep on scratching.

Tell me all about it: The bathrooms outnumber the bedrooms in this 16,528-square-foot home. This six-bedroom property is situated on two parcels with more than 32 acres and includes seven full bathrooms and three half-baths. The property boasts a private meadow, as well as a trail noted in the listing as being either for nature enjoyment or ATV riding. Inside, we love the indoor pool, home theater and wine cellar. Unsurprisingly, the price tag on the property beats out all other listings in Philly, as well as those in Delaware, Bucks and Chester Counties.

920 Spring Ave., Elkins Park (aka A1 Ashbourne Road, Elkins Park)
$16.5 million
Monthly taxes: $17,738
Tell me all about it: Even in a sea of high-end real estate, it was surprising to see that Lynnewood Hall has been on and off the market without success in the past few years. The immense property was designed by Horace Trumbauer and once housed the Widener estate’s private art collection. Many of the pieces are now in the National Gallery of Art, but the area’s largest Gilded Age mansion survives. The property was last listed over the summer for $17.5 million.

1543 Monk Rd., Gladwyne
$16.5 million
Monthly taxes: $17,738
Tell me all about it: A home is not really a proper estate or mansion unless it includes caretaker’s quarters. The caretaker for Linden Hill has a turreted home just off the courtyard and adjacent to the 10-car garage and stables. Other staff housing is also included on the property. The owner’s home includes two separate pools, as well as a pool house and tennis court. The property also has its own aviary.
