When Denise and Ernest Keen bought their 2,952-square-foot South Philadelphia home in 2008, they were thrilled to have more space.

"Coming from a condo, we were ecstatic to see a sun-drenched living room with 20-foot ceilings and a park-like setting at our back door," Denise said.

The three-bedroom property features a two-story living room with hardwood floors, as well as a community lawn shared with their neighbors.

After moving in, Keen said, she and her husband set about some minor renovations.

"We enjoy decorating the home and did custom wall finishes," Keen said.

Their work included hand-painted wall designs and a Venetian plaster accent wall.

Keen's favorite spot in the home is the lofted, second-floor dining room that overlooks the living room.

Below, a gourmet, eat-in-kitchen with custom cabinets, stainless steel appliances and granite counter tops offers access to a deck overlooking the lawn.

"My husband's favorite spot is the rear deck, where enjoys having a cup of coffee in the morning," she said.

The Siena Place community maintains the neighborhood lawn in warm weather and takes care of snow removal in the winter.

"It's a very pleasant atmosphere, with good neighbors and activities for the children," Keen said.

As much as they've enjoyed the community, Keen said, the couple have decided it's time to list the home for sale.

"We are winding down, preparing for retirement," she said.

The home is listed with Tom Englett at Berkshire Hathaway Home Services, Fox & Roach Realtors for $519,900.
